An Evening with Katrina Kerns.

I went to the Sufjan Steven’s show last week at the Bowery Ballroom, like many of the rest of you, and not to dwell on a subject that I have already previously spoke about, I had a wonderful time. Such a wonderful time in fact I did not want it to end. Being quite the ambitious person I am after the show had ended I was hanging around drunk, and decided “Hey, wouldn’t it be great to have a nice conversation with Sufjan himself?” So I handed my girlfriend my wallet and walked right on by security, at first he was gruff, not allowing me back inside, I gave him some sob story about losing my wallet and he let me right inside. So I was back inside, no real victory there, still had a long way to go. I head on over to the back stairwell by the womens restroom and breezed past another security gaurd, as I walked up those stairs I passed one Katrina Kerns on her way down,I believe she was returning a glass to the bar or something. Committed to the bit of finding my wallet, I went up stairs to the main floor area I pretended to search around the bar for a bit, and made my way back downstairs.

When I went down Katrina was standing around talking to some other people, the bar was almost empty at this point save for the security, the bartenders, and few remaining concert stragglers finishing up some drinks. This when I performed a totally unprepared and completely sloppy “mini-interview” with a woman that apparently has quite a large following of blogger geeks oogling after her (and after that night myself included). My intention was not to even talk to Katrina, but to Sufjan, so my drunken blind ambition really didn’t let me notice what a completely wonderful person she was, and she was wonderful indeed, she was polite, and willing to answer my questions, I’m sure I was obviously slurring, and I also obviously ill prepared to talk to anyone so, I basically got out three questions, she answered them dutifully, and we went our seperate ways. Conversation is as follows:

ME= Me
GF= My Girlfriend
KK = Katrina

GF: Hello, I just want to tell you we think your great.
KK: Oh, thank you.
ME: I write blog. (In my case the first thing to go while drinking isn’t balance or motor skills it is the use of articles and pronouns) Monday post pics of show.
KK: Awesome.
ME: How long know Sufjan?
KK: I have known him for years.
ME: Awesome and now are on tour together. It’s great he helps out friends.
KK: Yeah he is a good guy.
ME: So where did you get outfits?
KK: We made them.
ME: Ohh rad, (maybe I didn’t use “rad” there but it was totally some 80’s exclamation, I probably learned from watching too much Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles as a child). So you guys had a party one night and like made them.
KK: haha Kind of.
ME: (awkward pause, scratching back of head, searching for words) Sooo… well thanks, it was nice meeting you.
KK: (Still smiling) You’re welcome, good luck.
GF: We think you’re great. (And I think you are great.)

We then shook hands and it was over, I hurried on out of the bowery with a sort of strange euphoria, strange because nothing was accomplished at all, and I probably made a total fool out of myself, but all in all it makes for a good story.
