Sufjan, Pronounced Suf-yan, I Believe It’s a Soft J.

BackdropWell as I said last Friday that I was going to the first of five Sufjan shows at the Bowery Ballroom and I was coming back here with a full report and pics, unfortunatly the full report got lost somewhere in my brain, probably due to a bit too much gin. Anyway from what I remember the show was awesome, I had a blast and fully recommend goin to check him out live if at all possible. The whole show in itself was a bit bizarre, it included THREE wardrobe changes by the main man himself and two for everyone else in the band/squad, I say squad because they were all dressed as cheerleaders as seen in many of the promo pics for Illiniose. (Click “More” for Pics and Kanye West News)

Sufjan decided to make the 5 day set into a quasi high school spirit week sort of event, making the first night, backwards t-shirt day, the second night was set for “Fake an Injury Night” and Sunday was slated for “Pirate Night”, unfortunatly I can’t remember the other ones, because I was so blinded with excitement about the “Pirate Night”, I really hope someone got pics of that. Anyway posted below are the best of the best of the pics I have taken at the show. Some high points from the show included “Sister” “John Wayne Gacy, Jr.” and “Chicago”. To which every New Yorker, applauded at the lyric “.. I came to New York, in a van, with my friend,” that is immediatly followed by “I was in love with the place in my mind.. ” and finally what i think comes the back handed slap that no one really seemed to get “I made a lot of mistakes in my mind..”, oh well.

In other news, the new Kanye West album Late Registration has leaked and I’m sure is as excellent as his first album. I have only heard one track from LG (thanks Checkerboard Chimes) which has Maroon 5’s Adam Levine performing guest vocals. Now under normal circumstances having such a choad performing guest vocals would force me to boycott this songs almost instantly, but having taken the oath of open mindedness at The John Peel School of Musical Diversity, I find this song to be some what enticing and actually GOOD! Now being this post is alll about Sufjan Stevens, I’m goin to bring up an idea I had mentioned in a review I wrote for ElevenElephants. Kanye West really should join up with Sufjan, and at least sample “They Are Night Zombies!!..” Just imagine Kanye’s smooth flow as Sufjan and the rest of the Illiniose Makers, chanting “I-L-L-I-N-O-I-S! Ring the bell and call or write us.”
